Peoria, Ill. – Bradley Women's Basketball ends their road trip with a dominant win over the Valparaiso Beacons on Thursday, 80-44.
A Phenomenal Defensive Start
The Braves opened the game with a seven-point run and ended the first quarter with a 14-4 lead over the Beacons. In the first quarter, Valparaiso shot 2-for-16 from the field and went 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. The offense picked up for both sides, as Valparaiso matched the Braves over the first two minutes and scored 11 points in the second quarter. However, Bradley made six three-pointers and scored 26 points to make the score 40-15 heading into the half.
Standout Performances for Bradley
Tamia Perryman was named the Ameren Illinois Player of the Day, as she tied for the team lead in points with 18 while adding two rebounds, two assists, and two steals with no turnovers. Kaylen Nelson matched Perryman with 18 points and added three rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Micah Cooper had a strong day, finishing with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists. Maya Foz extended her double-digit scoring streak to seven games, scoring 12 points and adding two rebounds.
Maintaining Control in the Second Half
The Braves continued their great play in the second half, going on both a seven-point and a six-point run to score 24 points in the third quarter to extend the lead to 65-32. Bradley kept the momentum in the fourth quarter, going on an 11-point run to begin the final 10 minutes, and ended the game with a final score of 80-44.
Defensive Notes
Bradley held Valparaiso to 2-for-16 from beyond the arc and 17-for-53 from the field in today's matchup. They also forced 21 turnovers while committing just 13, and scored 18 points off the Beacons' turnovers. The Braves have done a phenomenal job all year playing aggressively and forcing opponents to make mistakes, as evidenced by their 15 steals. Bradley also did a great job of rebounding in today's game, outrebounding the Beacons, 40-37.
