AUBURN, AL – The Braves defeated the Binghamton Bearcats in the first game of the tournament, later dropping the second game of the day against the Auburn Tigers. The Braves scored 12 total runs with
Austin Comstock, Keirston McCoy, and
Ashley Breeding scoring two each.
Game 1
Bradley Softball (3-3) defeated Binghamton (1-6). Sophomore RHP
Abby Rusher struck out seven players in seven innings only allowing four hits and giving up three runs. Offensively, Bradley focused on getting players on base. Sophomore
Morgan Schlosser went 2-5 with a double and one RBI. Senior
Kierston McCoy went 1-3 with a home run and two RBI's, scoring 3 of Bradley's 9 runs. Another senior,
Ashley Breeding, went 1-2 with two RBI's. Hitting 1-4, junior Ella Schafer scored 2 runs for the Braves. Other contributors to the Braves victory were freshmen
Kelsey Martin and
Hannah Brooks, as well as senior
Austin Comstock. The Braves won against the Bearcats 9-3.
Game 2
Bradley Softball (3-4) was defeated by Auburn (6-2) in five innings. Freshman pitcher,
Gianna Hillegonds, opened for the Braves for the first time in her career. She faced a strong offensive team, allowing 3 hits and 5 runs in the first inning. With senior
Kinsley Robertson taking over for the remaining 3 of the Braves defensive innings, Auburn managed to score nine more times. Offensively, seniors
Austin Comstock and
Ashley Breeding, as well as sophomore
Olivia Turner, were big for the Braves as they scored the three Bradley runs, with Breeding and Turner both hitting doubles. The Braves lost against the Tigers 3-14. They will meet again tomorrow.
