FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. --
Jamie Phillips qualifies for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Ore., after finishing in third place in heat two of the Men's 800m Quarterfinals at the NCAA West First Round on Friday night.
Phillips' qualification marks the second straight year a Brave has qualified for the national championship meet in Eugene after
Jack Crull qualified for the Men's 1500m Semifinal last season. Phillips is the third Brave, male or female, to achieve the feat in the last four seasons and the seventh Brave to do in the 21st century.
Phillips, who qualified for the NCAA West First Round in the 800m for the second time in as many seasons, qualified for the quarterfinals on Wednesday night after placing third in heat one. Phillips' time of 1:48.03 ranked 18th overall.
In Friday night's quarterfinal, another third-place finish allowed Phillips to punch his ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. His time -- a 1:46.69 -- was the 10th-best amongst the 24 quarterfinalists.
Seven other Braves competed at the NCAA West First Round in College Station.
Kaden Kingsmith,
Jaxson Copelin,
David Locke and
Matthew Burnett also qualified for the West First Round in the Men's 800m. Kingsmith and Copelin also qualified for the Men's 800m Quarterfinal. Kingsmith finished in third place in heat five with a 1:48.32, while Copelin, despite a fourth-place finish, qualified with the fastest time amongst those outside of the top three heat finishers after running 1:47.28 in heat six to join Phillips in Friday night's race. Locke finished eighth in heat one with a 1:52.90, while Burnett ultimately scratched in heat five.
Trixie Wraith qualified for the Women's 1500m First Round for the second straight year. This year, Wraith finished eight in heat four with a time of 4:19.35. The time ranked 24th amongst all First Round runners.
JD Rosslee competed in the Men's 10000m and 5000m Semifinal races, making him the first Brave to compete in multiple events in an NCAA Regional meet since Michael Ward competed in the 1500m and 5000m in 2017. Rosslee finished 21st in the men's 10000m on Wednesday night, clocking a time of 29:23.12. Rosslee followed with an 11th-place finish in heat two of the men's 5000m on Friday night. His time of 13:55.78 resulted in an 18th-place finish overall for the junior.
Nadia Potgieter made her third career Women's 5000m Semifinal appearance on Saturday night, finishing 17th in heat one with a time of 16:32.47. Potgieter finished 34th overall.
