VB Blog: Braves Get Ready For Conference Play

Junior volleyball players Lyndi Senkpiel and Kaitlyn Comiskey will blogging throughout the 2008 season.  The Braves went 1-3 last week at the Northern Illinois Invitational and are busy preparing for Friday’s Missouri Valley Conference opener against Creighton.

After coming off of a disappointing weekend at Northern Illinois, we have our minds set on the beginning of conference. The outcome of the weekend was not what we had expected. We won our first match of the weekend against Fairfield and later that same day we faced Towson. We worked hard, but it wasn’t good enough this time. We needed to do a better job of executing during sets.

After a good night’s rest, we took on Loyola. The match wasn’t pretty to say the least. We got ourselves into a funk that we couldn’t get out of. Our passing suffered and as a result, so did our offense. We talked about our game plan for the match against NIU and were pumped up in the locker room. Northern played really well, as they had all weekend. Coach Burdette wasn’t happy with the result of the first two sets. After a pep talk in the locker room between the second and third sets, we came out with more of a fight. We performed better, but again, it was too late. We were disappointed with our play this weekend and have a lot of work to do this week in practice to get us ready for the conference.

Practice today consisted of a film session and about an hour and a half on the court. During our film session, we talked about our goals for conference. We feel the goals we have for ourselves are attainable, however, they won’t be easy! We have to push ourselves harder than we have been and show it on the court. We’re all excited for conference to start this weekend and look forward to starting it off at home! -- Lyndi
