Junior volleyball players Kaitlyn Comiskey and Lyndi Senkpiel will be blogging throughout the 2008 season. Comiskey provides today’s look at this weekend’s home opener which is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Illinois Central College. The Braves host the Wingate by Wyndham Invitational Friday and Saturday at ICC.
Well another school week has flown by, and I can’t believe that we are already competing again tomorrow. We’ve been working hard in practice all week, focusing in on the aspects of our game that we struggled with last weekend. Our freshmen and sophomores are now putting in eight hours of study hall a week, and we are all getting into full swing school mode. Our other middle hitter, Emily, is slowly coming back from a lingering hamstring injury, and Amy’s knee is starting to feel better as well.
Everyone has mixed emotions going into this weekend. Of course we are excited and pumped, yet it is going to be so different having our home court off campus. No one knows what to expect as far as a crowd, yet we’ve all been trying our best to encourage students and family to make it out to ICC. It may be hard on Friday, since our soccer team has a game at 7 that same night. Yet we’re still hoping for a good turnout, especially on Saturday.
Like Lyndi said in the last blog, although we didn’t come out of last weekend with three wins, we were by no means discouraged. The atmosphere and energy on the court was so different from last year, and a lot of positive things happened in our matches. I as well as my teammates are confident that when it all comes together, we will pull out a win. Our game plan this weekend is to focus on the little things, and not make a ton of errors. Hopefully next time I write we will finally have that W! - Kaitlyn
