Renee Gass

Renee Gass

California native Renee Gass is in her sixth season as assistant coach at Bradley, following a two-year stint as assistant coach at Humbolt State in Arcata, Calif.

In addition to her on the field coaching duties, Enos oversees the team's hitting, catching and serves as the team's recruiting coordinator.

In 2009, Gass helped guide the Braves to their best league finish since 1995 (12-12 record and sixth-place finish) and school record 12 league wins.  Bradley ended the regular season on a high note, winning the last five regular season games and kept the momentum going into the MVC Tournament where the Braves won four games in three days to claim the team's first-ever Valley title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

Bradley extended its win streak to 10 consecutive games with a 1-0 victory against 15th-seed and 20th-ranked DePaul in the opening game of the Columbia, Mo., NCAA Regional.  The 10-game win streak, which is tied for the second longest in school history, came to an end with a 2-1 loss to 12th-ranked and eventual World Series participant Missouri.  Gass and the Bradley coaching staff were selected as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mideast Coaching Staff of the Year in 2009 following the Braves first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Earlier in the season, she took over the head coaching duties for doubleheaders at Northern Iowa and Creighton when head coach Amy Hayes' son was born.  Gass led Bradley to a 3-1 record in those games.

Gass had an immediate impact in her first season, helping the Braves to their first winning record since the 1995 campaign.  A catcher in college, she played a big part in Bradley's vastly improved pitching staff in 2006, as the Braves posted a 2.24 ERA (the lowest ERA for the team since the 2002 season) and the most strikeouts (317) since the pitching rubber was moved back to its current distance following the 1986 season.

During her second year on The Hilltop, the Bradley pitching staff improved its strikeout total to 342 and had back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since the 1994 and 1995 campaigns.

Prior to coming to the Hilltop, Gass helped guide the Lumberjacks to a 113-21 (.843) record and back-to-back regular-season championships in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  In 2005, Humbolt State tied a school record for wins, going 60-6 and was ranked second in the final Division II regular-season national rankings.  The Lumberjacks were 22-2 in conference play and claimed their sixth consecutive regular-season conference championship.

While at Humbolt State, Gass was responsible for planning and assessing practices along with travel arrangements and scouting opponents.  She also assisted with recruiting and fundraising while monitoring the academic progress of the student-athletes.

She was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Southeast Missouri State, for two seasons prior to her tenure at Humbolt State.  Gass was a four-time Ohio Valley Conference performer at SEMO.  A two-time MVP, she earned first-team OVC honors her final three seasons of competition at catcher after garnering second-team honors as a freshman.

A native of Bakersfield, Calif., she helped the Redhawks to a 125-97-1 (.612) overall record, including a 65-16 (.802) record in conference play and back-to-back Ohio Valley Championships.  A two-time OVC scholar-athlete selection, Gass was named to the OVC all-tournament team as a sophomore and junior.

Gass earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Management with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Southeast Missouri State in 2002.  Entering the 2005 season, Gass ranked fourth in school history with 169 career hits and was also fourth in career doubles with 33.

The former Renee Enos, she married Tofer Gass in December 2009.
