Box Score CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Junior Lindsay Stalzer recorded a career-high 30 kills and hit .371 for the match, but it wasn't enough to lead the Bradley volleyball team to victory Saturday, as Southern Illinois downed the Braves in four games in Missouri Valley Conference action in Carbondale, Ill. Game scores in favor of the Salukis were 30-26, 25-30, 31-29, 30-28.
Stalzer had a career-best 30 kills and hit at .371 to pace the Braves offense as she became the 11th player in program history with 1,000 career kills. She entered the night with 974 career kills in her two-plus seasons as a Brave and jumped three spots on the career kills chart from 12th place to ninth. Stalzer passed Cindy Novak (989), Kathy Bickler (1001) and Andra Dystrup (1003) to move into ninth.
The Braves hit .246 for the night and had a season-high 11 service aces with Stalzer and junior Gillian Falknor both notching three aces on the night. Bradley totalled six ball handling errors and 15 service errors on the night falling to 5-12 overall, 0-7 in the Valley.
Stalzer's 30 kills were is the ninth time in school history a Bradley player has had 30 or more kills in the match and marked the first time a Brave had 30 kills since Abigail Kohnen had 35 against Illinois-Chicago on Oct. 26, 1999.
Freshman Nikki Pierzchala and junior Briony Hammet both had 14 kills. Hammet added 10 digs and three blocks, while Stalzer also finished with a double-double owning 14 digs to go with her match-best 30 kills.
Freshman Eileen Hillary played the entire match at setter for the Braves and finished with 56 assists and six digs, while fellow freshman Katie Oaks had a match and season-high 16 digs.
Southern Illinois (5-13 overall, 3-4 MVC) was led by Carrie Shephard's 17 kills. Shephard was one of two Salukis with double-doubles, finishing with 14 digs and six blocks.
Bradley closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule Monday at Illinois-Chicago. The Braves and Flames will play at 7 p.m. at the Flames Athletic Center in Chicago, Ill.
