Box Score PEORIA, Ill. -- Preston Good, Luke Kreamalmeyer and Kevin Erickson all recorded a goal and an assist as fourth-seeded Bradley (10-6-2) pulled away for a 3-1 win versus fifth-seeded Drake (8-9-1) in the first round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in front of 956 fans Saturday night at Shea Stadium.
With their third consecutive first round victory versus Drake, the Braves advanced to the MVC Tournament semifinals for the seventh consecutive year, the longest active streak in the Valley. And for the fifth consecutive year Bradley will meet SMU during the MVC Tournament Final Four. This time, the Braves will take on the top-seeded and third-ranked Mustangs (14-3-0) in Friday's 5 p.m. semifinal at Creighton's Morrison Stadium in Omaha, Neb. The championship game will be played Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. at Morrison Stadium and will be televised live on Fox Sports Midwest.
Bradley got on the board quickly as Good headed an Erickson service toward the left corner of the goal in the seventh minute. Although Drake keeper Phillip Breuer was able to keep Good's shot out of the net, he could not prevent Kreamalmeyer from finishing off the loose ball for this eighth goal of the year at 6:35.
Drake's Matt Nickel had an immediate answer, however, as he collected a ball from Adam Zenor at the top left corner of the 18-yard box, spun to the middle and lofted a perfectly placed shot into the top right corner of the goal for the tying goal at 9:14.
Erickson scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 33rd minute when he drilled a blast from the top of the 18 into the top shelf. Erickson's third goal of the season was set up after Kreamalmeyer was turned away by Breuer from point-blank range. Good tacked on the insurance goal in the 60th minute with a creative shot following a quick Bradley restart in the middle of the field. Cody Kother lobbed a service from the right flank over the top of the Drake defense to Good, who was rushing into the box on the left side. Good one-timed a high bounce near the left post past Breuer for his sixth goal of the year.
With his three points Saturday, Good has now recorded at least one point in seven consecutive games, the second-longest point streak in Bradley Soccer history. In what will likely be their final home game, Bradley's three seniors -- Good, Kreamalmeyer and Kother -- all finished with at least one point.
Bradley and SMU have met during either the semifinals or championship game of the MVC Tournament every year since the Mustangs joined the Valley for the 2000 season. The even numbered years have favored the Braves as Bradley earned a 1-0 victory during the 2000 semifinals versus SMU, then advanced on penalty kicks following a scoreless draw during the 2002 semis. SMU earned a 2-0 semifinal victory versus Bradley in 2001 on its way to the tournament championship, then won the 2003 title following a penalty kick shootout versus the Braves in the championship game.
