Box Score PEORIA, Ill. ? Reserve forward Chris Brown (Peoria, Ill./Dunlap H.S.) sparked the offense with two goals and the Braves defense did not allow a shot on goal as Bradley (4-2) earned a 3-0 men's college soccer victory versus Northeastern (1-4) in front of 908 fans Saturday night at Shea Stadium.
Northeastern did manage 10 shots against Bradley's defense, but Braves keeper Chris Dunsheath did not need to make a save while recording his fourth shutout in five home games this season. Bradley has now won four straight games at Shea Stadium.
Brown teamed up with fellow Peorian James Hedges (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.) for Bradley's first goal in the 40th minute. After Northeastern cleared a ball out of the penalty area, Hedges, a sophomore defender, served it back to the left side of the box. Brown ran onto the ball and beat Huskies keeper Sergio Saccoccio with a shot inside the right post from 12 yards for his first goal of the season.
Bradley struck again moments later as junior Salim Bullen (Queens, N.Y./Martin Luther King H.S.) netted his first goal of the season in the 43rd minute. This time it was redshirt freshman Todd Reedy (Springdale, Ark./Springdale H.S.) keeping a Northeastern clearance in the offensive end. Reedy sprung All-American candidate Luke Kreamalmeyer (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville H.S.) with a ball into the right flank. Kreamalmeyer took the possession to the end line, then found Bullen's head with a service to the far post for a 2-0 lead. Bradley's two first-half goals were scored in a span of 2:26.
Although Northeastern outshot Bradley 8-6 in the second half, the Huskies only had one serious threat to score the entire night, but Daryl Brack missed an open net from six yards in the 81st minute.
Brown gave the Braves some insurance when he scored his second goal of the night in the 85th minute. Reserve Teddy Anderson (Clearwater, Fla./Central Catholic H.S.) started a quick counter from midfield and found Brown with a long ball into the zone. Brown won the race to the ball, then beat Saccoccio with a shot to the right post from 15 yards.
While the goals were the first of the season for both Brown and Bullen, the assists by Hedges, Reedy and Anderson all represented their first college points.
After playing five of its first six games at home, Bradley will venture away from Shea Stadium for its next three games, beginning with its participation in Dartmouth's adidas/Hypertherm Tournament Sept. 24 and 26. Bradley will take on the host Big Green Friday at 3 p.m. (CST) and Central Connecticut State Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. (CST). After opening the Missouri Valley Conference schedule against travel partner Eastern Illinois Oct. 1, the Braves will return home for their non-conference finale Oct. 3 against Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
