PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley forced 22 second-half turnovers and shot nearly 60 percent in the second half to pick up its first Missouri Valley Conference victory of the season with an 84-53 win over Wichita State in women's basketball action Monday night at Robertson Memorial Field House.

The Braves (8-3 overall, 1-1 MVC) trailed 33-32 at the half after shooting 38.2 percent from the field. Bradley turned up the defensive pressure in the second half, however, forcing 22 Shocker turnovers and hit 21-of-36 shots (58.3 percent) in the final 20 minutes of play to outscore Wichita State 52-20 in the half.

Bradley seized control of the game early in the second half, opening the period with a 27-6 run to give the Braves a 58-39 lead. The Shockers went 3-for-11 from the field and committed 14 turnovers in the first 11 minutes of the half.

With the Braves leading 38-35, sophomore Jen Brown scored eight consecutive points and added two steals and one blocked shot to help key the decisive run. Brown was one of four Braves in double figures and finished with 11 points, three assists and three steals in 27 minutes of action.

Bradley's reserves played a huge part in the win as the Braves bench combined for 47 points and outscored the Wichita State reserves 47-7. Senior Va'Nicia Waterman connected on her first three three-point attempts of the game, extending her streak to six consecutive made three-pointers. She finished with a team-high 13 points, hitting 5-of-7 shots, and also added four steals in 18 minutes off the bench.

Freshman Libby Magnuson also turned her strongest performance of the year, netting 10 second-half points, en route to a season-high 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting

Senior Dena Williams just missed recording her 14th career double-double, posting 12 points and nine rebounds, while tying a career high with four assists.

The Braves defense forced a season-high 35 turnovers, marking the most turnovers for a Bradley opponent since Loyola committed 38 turnovers on Dec. 21, 1995. Senior Genny Mueller was the biggest culprit of the night, snagging seven steals to go along with eight points and game-high six assists. Mueller cracked Bradley's top 10 in scoring with the eight-point effort, passing Val Wancket for 10th place in school history and now has 1,051 career points.

Wichita State (3-8 overall, 0-2 MVC) was led by 20 points from freshman Kiki Stephens. Stephens also led the squad with eight rebounds and combined with Kelsy Richardson to score 38 of the Shockers 53 points. Wichita State shot 40.4 percent from the field, but the Braves owned a 41-11 advantage in points off turnovers and a +16 edge in turnovers.

Bradley closes out its season-long three-game homestand Saturday against Northern Iowa at 12:05 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
