PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley's recent offensive struggles continued Friday night, as the Braves fell in four games to visiting Missouri State (30-21, 26-30, 30-20, 30-18) at Robertson Memorial Field House in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action. The Braves hit .093 and had a season-high 39 hitting errors as they fell to 11-10 overall, 6-3 in the MVC.
Both teams entered the match in a four-way tie for second place after suffering losses on Friday. With the win the Bears remained in a tie with Illinois State for second place at 7-2 in league play behind league leading Wichita State, while Bradley is now tied with Northern Iowa for fourth place in the standings at 6-3.
Missouri State used solid defense, collecting 15 blocks and outdigging Bradley 84-79, to limit the Braves to their second lowest hitting percentage of the season. It was the fourth consecutive match Bradley hit below .200 and extended the Braves losing streak to four.
Senior Lindsay Stalzer and sophomore Nikki Pierzchala led the Braves offensively, as the duo tallied 41 of Bradley's 57 kills on the night. Stalzer posted the third 30-kill outing of her career, finishing with 30 kills, while tying a career-best with 19 digs. Pierchala was the only other Bradley player in double figures, collecting 11 kills.
Senior Gillian Falknor led the Braves defensive efforts with 28 digs, while freshman Katrina Goncher had a team-high seven blocks (two solo, five block assists).
Stalzer moved up three spots on the Missouri Valley Conference career kills list Saturday evening, passing Wichita State's Jan Meloy (1,657 kills), Kristie Kemner of Southern Illinois (1,660 kills) and Illinois State's Kendra Haselhorst (1,667 kills) to move into eight place in league history with 1,682 career kills. Stalzer needs 25 kills to move into seventh all-time and is 43 kills from moving into the top five.
Katie Werges led Missouri State with 20 kills and a .462 hitting percentage and Sabrina Apker added 13 kills and a match-high eight block assists. Four Bears reached double digits in digs with Adeana McAfee leading the way with 20 digs as Missouri State improved to 14-7 overall, 7-2 in the MVC.
Bradley returns to action Friday at Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. in Carbondale, Ill.
