PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Lindsay Stalzer (Kewanee, Ill./Kewanee) has named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced Thursday after helping the Bradley Volleyball team to a 2-1 record last week.
Stalzer averaged 6.67 kills, 3.92 digs and nearly 7.5 points per game, helping the Braves to a non-conference victory at Western Illinois and home win against Indiana State last week. She had 24 kills and tied a career high with 29 digs in Bradley's five-game win in Macomb, Ill. She also added four aces and three blocks against the Westerwinds. Stalzer followed that with 27 kills and a career-best 21 digs against I-74 rival Illinois State and capped the week with a 29-kill effort in a three-game sweep of Indiana State, hitting .415 against the Sycamores.
Her 29 kills against Indiana State tied her own school record for kills in a three-game match. Stalzer also moved into second place on the Missouri Valley Conference career kills list, becoming the second player in league history to record 1,800 career kills and is now just the third player in Valley history to record 600 kills in a season. In addition, her 20-kill, 20-dig effort against Illinois State was the first 20-20 outing by a Bradley player since Nov. 1, 2002. An engineering major, Stalzer owns a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Stalzer and the Braves (15-13 overall, 8-6 MVC) return to action Friday when the Braves play at Missouri State at 7 p.m. in Springfield, Mo. The Braves then head to Wichita State for a Saturday evening matchup with the 23rd-ranked Shockers before closing out the regular season next weekend at home against Drake (Nov. 18) and Creighton (Nov. 19) at Robertson Memorial Field House.
