Steve Chromik (Elk Grove, Ill./St. Viator/Vanderbilt) has named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week, announced Thursday after helping the Bradley Soccer team to the championship match of the 2005 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Tournament.
Chromik netted the game-winning goal in the Braves 1-0 victory against Drake in the semifinals of the Valley Tournament held in Peoria last week. He scored the matches lone goal at 56:07 on a corner kick to help the Braves advance to the championship match for the fifth time in the last seven years. A second-team All-Missouri Valley Conference performer, Chromik was also named a first-team MVC Scholar-Athlete. A physics major, he owns a 3.14 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Chromik and the Braves return to action Friday when they host Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first round of the NCAA Tournament at 7 p.m. at Shea Stadium.
