Box Score PEORIA, Ill. ? Senior Lindsay Stalzer had her fourth consecutive outing with 20 or more kills and fifth of the season, notching 21 kills as she helped power the Bradley Volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over visiting Belmont Saturday afternoon at the Radisson Hotel Invitational at Robertson Memorial Field House.
Bradley (3-5 overall) improved to 3-0 in tournament play with the 30-25, 27-30, 30-28, 30-24 victory against the Bruins, which finished the tournament with a 2-2 record. The win was the third consecutive for the Braves, giving Bradley its longest win streak since the middle of the 2003 season.
Stalzer once again led the team in kills, with a match-best 21 and also added a match-high seven blocks. She moved into fourth place on Bradley's career list for total blocks, passing Laura Benzing's career total of 345. Stalzer now has 348 blocks as a Brave.
While Stalzer took a large percentage of the swings on the afternoon, her teammates made the most of their opportunities. Sophomore Nikki Pierzchala notched 15 kills and hit at a .480 clip, while junior Amber DeBroux posted a double-double with 12 kills, 10 digs and five blocks.
Senior Briony Hammet had six kills and boasted a .357 hitting percentage and junior Amy McFarland found the floor with kills on four of her six swings for a .667 attack percentage.
After Bradley posted a 30-25 victory in the opener, Belmont hit .483 in the second game to edge the Braves 30-27 and even the match. Bradley used its defense to hold off the Bruins in the final two games as Belmont hit .114 and .056 in the final two games.
Belmont fell to 6-5 on the season with the loss.
Bradley closes out play at the Radisson Hotel Invitational Saturday evening against Northern Illinois. The winner of the Bradley-NIU match will claim the tournament title. In other tournament action Saturday morning Belmont defeated Oakland (30-21, 30-22, 30-21) and Northern Illinois downed Southeast Missouri State (30-23, 30-21, 30-27).
