DES MOINES, Iowa -- Senior middle blocker Lindsay Stalzer had a team-high 23 kills and sophomore Jenna Harrison added a career-best 12 kills to help lead the Bradley Volleyball Team to a 30-19, 30-26, 27-30, 30-26 victory at Drake Saturday. The Braves improved to 6-6 overall and 2-0 in Missouri Valley Conference play with the victory.
The Braves won for the sixth time in the last seven matches and started out conference play with a 2-0 record for the first time since the 2002 season with the 3-1 victory against Drake. Bradley won consecutive road matches in league action for the first time since winning at Southern Illinois and at Evansville in September of 2003.
Bradley won for the ninth consecutive time in the series with the Bulldogs and won for the 12th time in the last 13 meetings with Drake. In addition, Bradley has two win streaks of three matches or more for the first time since the 2002 campaign.
Stalzer finished with her team-leading fifth double-double of the night as she totalled 23 kills and tied for team-high honors with 14 digs. Harrison was the only other Brave in double figures in kills with a career-best 12. She committed just one hitting error and finished with a .500 hitting percentage to go along with two block assists.
Bradley boasted a .444 hitting percentage in the opening game and cruised to a 30-19 victory to take an early 1-0 lead. After posting a 30-26 win in game two to push the lead to 2-0, the Braves attempted to post the team's second three-game sweep of the season, but Drake hit a match-best .279 in the third game to pull out a 30-27 win.
The Braves played tough defense in the fourth game to put away the Bulldogs, limiting Drake to a match-low .116 attack percentage in the game to complete the victory with a 30-26 win.
Junior Jennifer Bohan helped lead Bradley's defensive effort, finishing with a season and team-high 14 digs. Senior Ashley Vance had 36 assists and three digs on the night, while freshman Katrina Goncher added two kills and a career-best six block assists.
Senior Briony Hammet added six kills and five digs in the three games off the bench for the Braves. Hammet, who hit .462 on the night, moved into a tie for 20th place on Bradley's career kills list with 700 kills and is one of 13 players in program history with 700 kills and 700 digs.
Drake fell to 0-11 overall and 0-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play with the loss. Megan Veltman had a match-high 24 kills to lead the Bulldogs. Beth Kranske had a match-high 20 digs to lead Drake defensively.
Bradley returns to action Friday, September 23 when the Braves play host to Evansville at 7 p.m.
