PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Lindsay Stalzer tallied a match-high 29 kills and had a career-best 19 digs as she helped Bradley to a 30-24,. 30-22, 28-30, 30-21 victory over Evansville Friday night at Robertson Memorial Field House. The win was the fourth consecutive for the Braves and seventh win in the last eight matches.
Stalzer notched 29 kills and set a Missouri Valley Conference single-match record with 94 attack attempts against the Purple Aces. The previous Valley mark was 93 attack attempts by Michelle Witzke of Missouri State, while the Bradley record for attack attempts in a match had been held by Betsy Buckhold with 90. In addition she became the 19th player in Valley history to reach 1,500 career kills, while improving her season average to a league best 5.44 kills per game.
The Braves cruised to victory in the first two games, downing Evansville 30-24 and 30-22 to take a 2-0 lead. The Aces rallied for a 30-28 victory in the third game to avoid the sweep. Evansville boasted a .222 hitting percentage in the third game after hitting .099 in the first two games and also capitalized on 13 Bradley attack errors, including seven UE blocks, in the game.
The two squads were even in game four at 17-17, before the Braves closed out the match on a 13-4 run to improve to 7-6 overall and 3-0 in Valley play. Bradley hit .324 in the final game and served up five of the team's season-high 11 aces in the last set in the 30-21 win.
Bradley's four-match win streak is the team's longest since midway through the 2003 season, while the team improved to 3-0 in conference play for the first time since opening the 2002 conference schedule with a 6-0 mark.
Sophomore Nikki Pierzchala also finished with a double-double on the night for the Braves as she finished with 12 kills and 16 digs. Fellow sophomore Jenna Harrison also had a big night, notching 12 kills on 23 attacks for a .478 hitting percentage. Freshman Katrina Goncher had a season and team-high seven block assists, to go along with her eight kills.
Evansville (5-10 overall, 0-2 MVC) was led by 14 kills from Sarah Treadway. Lacy Haller was the only other Purple Ace in double figures with 10 kills, while Julie Walroth had a career and match-high 33 digs to lead Evansville defensively.
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves play host to Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
