ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Freshman forward Kelly Krumwiede (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office on Monday.

Krumwiede, who made the first two starts of career, averaged 11.5 points and 14.5 rebounds per game last week as she helped Bradley to a 1-1 record. In the first start of her career, she posted her first career double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds in a 59-70 loss to Indiana State. Krumwiede's 17 boards tied for the 10th best rebounding effort in school history.

She nearly followed that with another double-double in Sunday's 71-63 victory against I-74 rival Illinois State. Krumwiede finished with nine points and a game-high 12 rebounds against the Redbirds. She also added three assists and three steals, while scoring all nine of her points from the free throw line, hitting 9-of-10 attempts from the line.

The Newcomer of the Week honor is the first for a Bradley player since Amy Fuller earned the award on Nov. 24, 2003.

Krumwiede is averaging 8.1 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 6.5 per game. She ranks third in the Valley in offensive rebounding, hauling down 3.5 offensive rebounds per game.

Krumwiede and the Braves open a three-game Valley road swing Saturday at Northern Iowa at 4:05 p.m. in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
