CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Senior Amber DeBroux tied for match-high honors with 16 kills and was one of four Bradley players to post more than 10 kills, but Southern Illinois served up 12 aces and owned a 16-9 edge in blocks as the Salukis defeated the Braves 30-28, 30-32, 30-28, 30-24 Saturday night in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action. Bradley fell to 6-19 overall and 3-10 in Valley play with the loss.

DeBroux tied for a match-high with 16 kills on the night and was one of four Bradley players to reach double figures in kills. Fellow senior Kelly Niemeyer tallied 13 kills and also added a team-high 24 digs for her team-leading 11th double-double of the year. Sophomore Katrina Goncher recorded the first double-double of her career, added 11 kills and a career-best 10 digs, while senior Amy McFarland also had a career-best with 10 kills to round out the offensive highlights for the Braves.

Senior libero Jennifer Bohan helped headline a solid defensive effort for Bradley as the Braves owned a 100-93 edge in digs. Bohan finished with 22 digs and was one of five BU players to reach double figures in digs. Sophomore setter Sam Black added her 10th double-double of the year with 37 assists and 11 digs, while fellow sophomore Brooke Bond contributed 13 digs.

Southern Illinois (11-12 overall, 6-7 MVC) also had four players reach double digits in kills with Kristie Berwanger leading the way with 16 kills. Johannah Yutzy added 13 kills, while Chandra Roberson had 11 kills and 11 blocks (two solo, nine block assists).

Defense dominated game one as neither team hit better than .100. The Salukis mustered just enough offense in the end, however, as Haley Hann recorded a pair of kills to close out the 30-28 SIU win in the opener.

DeBroux broke a 30-30 tie in game two with her 10th kill of the match to give the Braves a one point lead and Niemeyer and junior Jenna Harrison combined for a block as Bradley evened the match at one game each with a 32-30 win in game two. The Braves hit .325 in the game and boasted a 17-11 in digs as DeBroux and Niemeyer each recorded five kills in the frame.

The Salukis recorded four aces and five blocks in game three, while limiting Bradley to a .125 attack percentage. Southern Illinois led by as many as six points (21-15) before taking a one game lead in the match with a 30-28 victory.

Game four went back and forth with a total of six lead changes and nine ties, but the Salukis used an 11-4 run to take control of the game. Bradley led 19-18, before the 11-4 SIU run gave the Salukis a 29-23 lead. Southern Illinois hit .158 in the final game, while limiting the Braves to an .044 hitting percentage and SIU also held a 5-0 advantage in blocks, closing out the match with a 30-24 win.

Bradley returns to action Friday when the Braves play host to Creighton at 7 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
