DES MOINES, Iowa -- Bradley turned in one of its best defensive efforts of the season and coupled that with one of its strongest offensive outings of the year to sweep Drake 30-19, 30-22, 30-27 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa. The Braves picked up their first Valley victory of the season, improving to 4-13 overall and 1-5 in MVC play.
Bradley limited Drake to an .089 hitting percentage and tied a season-best with three reception errors in the victory. The .089 attack percentage was the second lowest hitting percentage by a BU opponent this fall and the lowest since the Braves held Austin Peay to an .070 attack percentage on Sept. 2. Bradley also held a 9-3 edge in blocks on the night and owned a slight edge in digs at 63-61 over the Bulldogs.
The Braves hit .237 as a team, the third highest hitting percentage of the year and best effort since hitting .322 against Austin Peay. Senior Amber DeBroux led Bradley's offensive efforts with 11 kills and added 11 digs for her fourth double-double of the year. She passed the 700-career kill mark and is now tied for 20th in school history with Kelly O'Neill at 705 kills.
Jennifer Bohan once again helped highlight the defensive efforts with a team-best 14 digs. Junior Jenna Harrison chipped in with nine kills and four blocks while attacking at a .353 clip, while freshman Amy Reichel added five kills and owned a .556 attack percentage in two games of action.
The victory was the 11th consecutive Bradley win in the series with Drake dating back to the 2000 campaign, and was the Braves sixth consecutive road win against the Bulldogs.
Megan Veltman had a team-high 12 kills to lead Drake (3-13 overall, 0-6 MVC). The Bulldogs had four other players record six or more kills, but Liz McNulty (8 kills - 4 errors - 17 attacks - .235 attack percentage) was the only Drake player to hit better than .200 on the night. Kara Engebrecht led Drake with a match-high 17 digs.
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves play at Creighton. The Bluejays are currently tied for the lead in the regular-season MVC race with a 5-1 league mark after suffering a five-game loss to Northern Iowa Friday night. First serve from the Omaha Civic Auditorium is set for 7 p.m.
