PEORIA, Ill. ? It seems as though the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Men's Soccer Championship cannot be staged without a matchup between Bradley and Drake. For the fifth year in a row, the Braves and Bulldogs will meet in the postseason when top-seeded Bradley hosts fourth-seeded Drake in Friday night's 7:30 p.m. semifinal at Shea Stadium.
Drake (6-7-5) rode a pair of second half goals from Ryan Moylan to a 2-0 victory versus fifth-seeded Evansville (9-8-0) in Wednesday's second quarterfinal game. In Wednesday's tournament opener, league scoring leader Brad Peters netted his 10th and 11th goals of the season, leading sixth-seeded Eastern Illinois (11-6-2) to a 3-1 upset of third-seeded Missouri State (8-8-3). The Panthers will face regular-season co-champion and No. 2 seed Creighton (11-4-3) in Friday's 5 p.m. semifinal game.
Bradley and Drake will meet in the postseason for the fifth consecutive season Friday night with a spot in Sunday's Valley championship game. Bradley has won each of the last four tournament meetings versus the Bulldogs, including a 1-0 victory in the 2005 semifinals at Shea Stadium. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw earlier this season in Peoria.
Tickets for the 2006 State Farm MVC Men's Soccer Championship are $6 for adults and $2 for youth. Bradley University students will receive free admission, thanks to the support of the Bradley Braves Club.
