ST. LOUIS -- Bradley junior guard Jeremy Crouch (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) has been selected the male Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced today.
The Valley's Scholar-Athlete program, which is sponsored by Prairie Farms, Roberts and Hiland Dairies, honors conference student-athletes for their athletic peformance for a one-week period and academic succes in the classroom.
“Prairie Farms and its family of dairies have been the only sponsors of this worthwhile endeavor by the Missouri Valley Conference,” said Commissioner Elgin. “We are grateful for Prairie Farms' continued recognition of student-athletes like Jeremy (Crouch) and Jill (Martin of Drake, the female recipient) for their athletic performance and their academic success.”
On Monday, Crouch was named the Valley men's basketball Player of the Week after he led the Braves (1-0) to a 78-58 season-opening victory versus DePaul by scoring a career-best 22 points. Crouch made a career-best six 3-pointers versus the Blue Demons, helping Bradley to a home record 13 treys overall. The 6-foot-5 guard also added four rebounds, three assists and a steal in his 27 minutes of action versus the Blue Demons.
In the classroom, Crouch boasts a 3.04 cumulative grade point average as a secondary education - history major. He has earned a spot on the Bradley Athletic Director's Honor Roll in three of his first four college semesters.
Crouch becomes the first-ever Bradley men's basketball player to be named the Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week and he is the fourth Bradley student-athlete to be recognized during the 2006-07 academic year. Soccer players Zach Bell (Aug. 31) and Todd Reedy (Oct. 18) and women's golfer Charlotte McGinnis (Sept. 28) are previous honorees this year.
To qualify for the Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative 3.00 grade point average, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
