PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior attacker Amber DeBroux (Byron, Ill./Byron) and libero Jennifer Bohan (Jacksonville, Ill./Jacksonville/Parkland C.C.) both earned Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete honors, announced by the league office Tuesday, with DeBroux earning First-Team Scholar-Athlete honors and Bohan garnering honorable mention consideration.
A marketing major with a 3.39 cumulative grade point average, DeBroux led Bradley with 361 kills and a .217 attack percentage. She was also third on the team in both aces (15) and blocks (55) and her 168 digs was the fourth-best total on the squad. DeBroux averaged a team-best 3.47 kills per game in conference play and was the only player to hit better than .200 in league games, boasting a .232 attack percentage. She finished her career 16th on Bradley's career kills list with 844 career kills.
A psychology major with a 3.80 cumulative grade point average, Bohan earned honorable mention MVC scholar-athlete recognition after earning second-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V honors this fall. Bohan led the team in digs (398) and digs per game (4.23), while ranking second in aces with 17. She averaged 4.42 digs per game in Missouri Valley Conference play and her 398 digs on the year tied for the ninth best season total in school history.
Bradley has had at least one individual earn First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete honors each of the last 10 years. Under ninth-year head coach Scott Luster, 10 different players have combined to earn a total of 18 First-Team MVC Scholar-Athlete recognition.
A total of 37 student-athletes were nominated for the 2006 MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, marking the 15th consecutive year that at least 30 Valley players were under consideration for league academic honors.
The criteria for the Valley's Scholar-Athlete Team parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular season, reached sophomore academic and athletic standing at their institution and completed at least one full academic year at their institution.
