PEORIA, Ill. -- Bradley had a tough time getting its offense going as Creighton used a balanced attack and a solid defensive effort to sweep the Braves 30-25, 30-22, 30-15 in Missouri Valley Conference volleyball action Friday night at Robertson Memorial Field House. The Braves hit just .044 in the match, while falling to 6-20 overall and 3-11 in MVC play.
Senior Kelly Niemeyer was the only Bradley player in double figures in kills, finishing the night with 10 kills and nine digs. The Braves had just 34 kills on the night and boasted an .044 attack percentage as a team, while Creighton (18-6 overall, 10-3 MVC) had three players reach double figures in kills with Abby Baumann posting a match-high 13 kills to go along with 11 digs.
The Braves hit .075 in the first game, compared to .273 for the Bluejays as Creighton took the opening frame with a 30-25 victory. Baumann found the floor with six of her match-high 13 kills in the opener, while Jessica Houts added five kills for Creighton. Niemeyer collected four of her team-high kills in the first game, while sophomore Katrina Goncher and junior Jenna Harrison both added three kills each for the Braves.
The Bluejays used a 7-1 run midway through game two to take an 18-9 lead. Bradley managed to pull to within five points at 19-14, but Creighton's Katie Mehal and the Bluejays defense fought off the Braves rally attempts, posting a 31-24 edge in digs in the second game. Mehal highlighted the Bluejays defensive efforts collecting 10 of her 19 digs in the frame. Niemeyer matched her first game total with four kills and also added six digs, but the Braves hit .080 as a team in the 30-22 loss.
Creighton led from start to finish in the third game, dominating play at the net. The Bluejays tallied eight blocks in the final game and hit .324 as a squad to cruise to a 30-15 win to close out the match. Harrison capped off one of the most efficient offensive efforts of her career with three kills in the third game and finished the night with seven kills on nine swings for a .667 attack percentage.
Goncher matched Harrison's total on the night with seven kills, while freshman Amy Reichel chipped in with five kills off the bench. Senior Jennifer Bohan tied for match-high honors with 19 digs, while junior Eileen Hillary was also in double figures in digs with 11 as she also had 14 assists to record her second double-double of the year.
Creighton hit .248 as a team and owned an 11-4 edge in blocks while outdigging the Braves 60-53. Joining Baumann in double figures in kills for the Bluejays were Jessica Houts (12 kills) and Amanda Cvejdlik (10 kills).
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves host Drake at 7 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
