Toledo, Ohio ? Junior Teri Chan (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) earned her 11th win of the year at No. 3 singles but it wasn't enough as Toledo swept the balance of the matches for a 6-1 win at Shadow Valley Tennis and Fitness Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Chan scored a straight-set, 6-1, 6-4, victory over the Rockets' Viviano Rivero in the Braves' only match win. Chan has won two of three matches this spring and a team-best 11 matches overall.
The Braves' freshmen put up battles at No. 4 and 5 singles that came up just shy in the closely contested matches.
Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview) dropped the opening set to Sarah Horning and then dug in to scrap out the second in a close tiebreak that ended with Krubeck on top, 9-7. Horning was game for the super-tiebreak and held on for a 10-4 win.
Freshman Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) made a push at the No. 4 spot against Toledo's Jenny Belsky, dropping the first set before falling 7-5 in the second.
The Braves have a busy weekend upcoming as they'll hit the road for a Friday match at Valparaiso and then continue on to Kalamazoo, Mich. For a match with #50 Western Michigan on Saturday, followed by a Sunday match with Wisconsin-Green Bay.
