PEKIN, Ill. -- Bradley scratched out an early unearned run and senior Brittany Dehler made it stand up as she pitched a complete game shutout as Braves posted a 1-0 victory against Purdue to claim the title of the Bradley Invitational Sunday at the Dragon's Dome in Pekin, Ill.

The Braves pitching dominated tournament play, giving up just one run in the four games. Dehler pitched seven scoreless innings, scattering five hits and four walks, while striking out five as she improved to 2-0 on the year. She earned two of Bradley's four victories on the weekend, striking out 13 in 11 innings of work and was named tournament MVP.

The Braves lone run of the afternoon came in the bottom of the first inning. Junior Christine Cooney legged out a triple and came around to score on a Tricia Lilley error on a throw to the infield on the play. Bradley mustered just two more hits the rest of the afternoon, but Dehler's second shutout of the year enabled the Braves to win their fourth consecutive game.

The Boilermakers (8-6 overall) completed tournament play with a 3-1 mark and finished second in the six-team field. Brooke Baker suffered the loss, falling to 5-5 on the season.

Joining Dehler on the all-tournament team from Bradley were Cooney, sophomores Jessie Musgrove and Molly Bergeson and freshman pitcher Ashley Birdsong. Bergeson went 6-for-12 at the plate with five runs scored and one RBI. Cooney collected three hits in her seven at bats and scored four times, while Musgrove was 4-for-11 with a home run and three RBI. Birdsong went 1-0 and earned a save on the week, fanning 15 batters in 10 innings of work.

In other action Sunday, Northern Iowa defeated Northern Illinois 4-1 in the third-place game, and IUPUI downed Western Illinois 3-0 to win the fifth-place game.

Bradley (4-0 overall) looks to continue its best start since the 1995 season when the Braves head to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the Frost Classic March 3-5. The Braves face North Florida at 12:15 p.m. in Chattanooga Friday, and tournament host Tennessee-Chattanooga at 4:45 p.m.
