Box Score DES MOINES, Iowa -- Three Bradley players scored in double figures, paced by Ashley Chelleen's 14 points, but the Braves committed 20 turnovers and Drake capitalized on the BU errors, as the Bulldogs posted a 65-57 victory against Bradley Saturday at the Drake Knapp Center to conclude the regular-season
Bradley trailed 25-24 with 7:11 to play in the first half, before Drake scored six consecutive points, during an 11-2 run that saw the Bulldogs take a 36-26 lead with 2:21 to play. Junior Ashley Chelleen scored seven consecutive points and Bradley limited Drake to just one field goal in the final 2:20 of play as the Braves trailed 39-33 at the half.
The Braves trailed 49-43 with 11:37 to play in the game, before Drake went on a 12-2 run that helped the Bulldogs build a 61-45 lead with just under seven minutes to play. Bradley went on a 14-4 run to cut the deficit to six points at 57-63 with just over 30 seconds to play. The Braves could get no closer in the final seconds, however, as Drake snapped Bradley's season-long three-game winning streak with the 65-57 setback.
Bradley shot 50 percent in the opening half of play, but Drake boasted a 55.6 field goal percentage in the opening half of play, including 44.4 percent from beyond the three-point arc as the Bulldogs built a 39-33 lead at the break. The Braves limited the Bulldogs to 34.8 percent shooting in the second half, but Drake hit 9-of-12 free throws after halftime and outrebounded Bradley 18-14 in the second half.
Chelleen led the Braves with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Devyn Flanagan (11 points) and junior Amy Peters (10 points) joined Chelleen in double figures. Junior Jen Brown added eight points and game highs of four assists and four steals.
Jill Martin finished with game highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds to lead Drake, which finished second in the MVC with a 17-10 overall record and 13-5 league mark. Lindsay Whorton (12 points) and Brandy Dahir (10 points) were also in double figures for the Bulldogs.
Bradley will take part in next week's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in Springfield, Mo. The Braves finished the regular season with a 9-18 overall record and tied Creighton for 10th in the Valley standings with a 5-13 record. Bradley will be the #10 seed and will play the loser of tonight's Missouri State-Wichita State game Thursday evening at the Hammons Student Center.
