PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior women's golfer Meaghan LeBlanc (Calgary, Alberta/Western Canada) has named the Prairie Farms Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement by the league office. LeBlanc earned the honor for the second time this school year after earning tri-medalist honors and helping the Bradley women's golf team to the team title at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship at the Reflection Ridge Golf Club in Wichita, Kan.
LeBlanc earned medalist honors for the third time in the last four tournaments and defended her individual title at the Valley Championship, finishing in a three-way tie with Illinois State's Samantha Richdale and Missy Linnens of Missouri State with a three-round total of 225. LeBlanc carded rounds of 72, 77 and 76 to become the second Bradley player and fourth in MVC history to earn medalist honors at the MVC Championship twice. She also joined another elite group, becoming the fourth player in Valley history to earn first-team All-MVC honors in each of her four seasons. A finance major, LeBlanc owns a 3.74 cumulative grade point average.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
LeBlanc and the Braves won the fourth Valley title in program history and third in the last five years. Bradley will be participating in its third NCAA Regional in program history. The Braves will play in one of three NCAA Regionals which will be announced Monday May 1. The 2006 NCAA Regionals will be played May 11-13 in Bryan, Texas (Texas A&M host), Browns Summit, N.C. (Wake Forest) and Auburn, Wash. (Washington).
