PEORIA, Ill. -- A check of the professional sports rosters at the Major League Baseball All-Star Break reveals that Bradley is one of 18 schools in the country to boast at least one active player in Major League Baseball, Major League Soccer, the National Basketball Association and the National Football League.
Of the 18 teams on the list, Bradley is the only school that does not field a team in one of the four sports (football) and is one of only three teams that is not a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big 10 Conference, Big East Conference, Pac-10 Conference or Southeastern Conference. Memphis (Conference USA) and UNLV (Mountain West) also made the cut.
Heading into this week's Major League Baseball All-Star break, former Bradley pitcher Brian Shouse was a member of the Milwaukee Brewers bullpen. Nearly two months since his trade from the Texas Rangers, Shouse is 1-0 with two saves and a 3.18 earned run averge in 33 relief appearances for the Brewers. He did not allow a single run in his 15 June appearances, but has surrendered one run in three of his five July outings.
On the soccer pitch, former Bradley All-Americans Bryan Namoff and Tim Regan continue to shine as defenders for D.C. United and Chivas USA, respectively. Namoff has played all 90 minutes in 13 consecutive games for the Eastern Division leading United, which ran its unbeaten streak to 12 games (9-0-3) with a pair of 1-0 road victories last week. Regan has started all 17 games for Chivas USA this year and he is second on the team in playing time having played all but 25 of a possible 1530 minutes.
Former Bradley center Patrick O'Bryant became the school's newest top-level professional by signing a multi-year contract with the NBA's Golden State Warriors last week. O'Bryant made his professional debut over the weekend at the Toshiba Vegas Summer League in Las Vegas, helping the Warriors to a split in their first two games at UNLV's Cox Pavilion. Golden State has three games remaining in Las Vegas, including today's contest against Cleveland.
The veteran of Bradley's quintet of pros is former basketball power forward Marcus Pollard, who is preparing for his 12th season as a NFL tight end. Following 10 years with the Indianapolis Colts, Pollard will soon begin his second preseason training camp with the Detroit Lions boasting 309 receptions for 3,907 yards and 38 touchdowns. He is second behind only Kansas City's Tony Gonzalez among active NFL tight ends in receiving yardage and touchdowns and he is third behind Gonzalez and Jacksonville's Kyle Brady in receptions.
