PEORIA, Ill. -- After dropping game one 30-24 it appeared Bradley appeared destined to even the match at one game a piece, holding a 27-25 lead over Clemson, before the Tigers rallied to close the game with a 5-1 run and went on to hit .415 in game three to post a 30-24, 30-28, 30-21 victory against the Braves Friday afternoon at the Mortar Board Premier in West Lafayette, Ind.
Bradley (0-2 overall) took a 27-25 lead late in game two on an Amy McFarland kill and was looking to even the match at 1-1 with a victory. Danielle Hepburn notched one of her 13 kills to pull Clemson (1-0 overall) within one point at 27-26 and a pair of Bradley errors gave the Tigers a 28-27 edge.
DeBroux followed with a kill of her own to even the match at 28-28, but Hepburn recorded another kill and Jeanette Abbott ended the game with one of her 13 kills on the afternoon to give Clemson a 30-28 victory and 2-0 lead in the match.
While game two featured eight lead changes and 13 ties, Clemson was able to pull away in the closing moments of game three to complete the sweep. Bradley trailed 19-18 after a kill by freshman Amy Reichel, but the Braves committed attack errors on four of the next six points during a 7-0 Tigers run that pushed the Clemson lead to 26-18. The Braves weren't able to muster enough offense to come back, hitting .152 in the game compared to a .415 attack percentage for Clemson in the final game.
Niemeyer and DeBroux tied for match high honors with 13 kills. Niemeyer added 12 digs for her first double-double since a 16-kill, 13-dig effort at DePaul on Sept. 27, 2005. Sophomore Sam Black led the Braves with 23 assists and a career-best three service aces.
Clemson had three players tie for match-high honors with 13 kills. Hepburn finished with 13 kills and just one hitting error on 23 swings for a .522 hitting percentage, helping the Tigers boast a .325 attack percentage.
Bradley closes out play at the Mortar Board Premier Saturday at 4 p.m. (CDT) against Albany.
