PEORIA, Ill. (Aug. 9, 2006) -- The Peoria Chiefs, the Class A Midwest League affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, will join in the celebration of Bradley Basketball's historic run to the 2006 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 by hosting “Bradley Night” Aug. 24 at O'Brien Field.
Bradley men's basketball head coach Jim Les and team members will be in attendance Aug. 24 when the Chiefs host the St. Louis Cardinals affiliate Swing of Quad Cities in the 7 p.m. game at O'Brien Field in downtown Peoria. As part of the promotion, the Chiefs will wear specially-designed red Bradley jerseys, which will be made available for a postgame auction. Proceeds from the evening, which is being sponsored by T.G.I. Friday's, will benefit the George Shadid Jr. Scholarship Fund at Bradley University.
Single-game tickets for Peoria Chiefs home games are $6 for general admission seating in the lawn areas, $9 for box seats (beyond first and third bases) and $10 for club box seats (between first and third bases). Bradley University alumni may print a voucher from the association's website -- www.bradley.edu/alumni -- that allows the purchase of club box seats for $8 through Aug. 21. The 2005-06 Bradley men's basketball team advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1955. The Braves (22-11) enjoyed a second-half surge that helped the team earn an at-large invitation to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1996. The tournament's No. 13 seed, the Braves upset one of the hottest teams in the country, Big 12 Conference champion and 12th-ranked Kansas, 77-73, in the first round of the Oakland Regional at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Bradley followed its first-round upset by knocking off Big East member and 16th-ranked Pittsburgh, 72-66, in the second round to earn a trip to Oakland, Calif., for a third-round matchup against the bracket's top seed, #3 Memphis.
