PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior Kelly Niemeyer posted her fourth consecutive double-double and fellow senior Amber DeBroux added 11 kills and hit .471 for the match as the duo helped lead the Bradley volleyball team to its third consecutive victory with a 30-23, 30-23, 30-17 win against Austin Peay during the second day of action at the Radisson Hotel Invitational Saturday at Robertson Memorial Field House.
Niemeyer followed up her career-best performance of 27 kills and 27 digs Friday night against Western Illinois with a 14-kill, 13-dig effort Saturday afternoon against the Lady Govs. She entered the season with five career double-doubles, but has nearly matched her career output with four this season and leads the Braves in both kills (4.33) and digs (4.22) per game.
DeBroux added 11 kills and three blocks, while attacking at a .471 clip. Sophomore Katrina Goncher matched a career-high with eight kills and boasted a .615 hitting percentage, helping the Braves to a season-best .322 attack percentage.
Bradley (3-2 overall) came out strong in the opener, boasting a .432 hitting percentage in the first game in the 30-23 victory. Defense was the key to victory in the final two games, limiting Austin Peay to an .032 attack percentage in the final two games.
The three-match win streak is the longest for Bradley since winning eight consecutive matches during September and early October of last season. The Braves served up eight aces in the three-game match with setters Sam Black and Eileen Hillary both tying for match-high honors with three.
Ashley Genslak led Austin Peay (0-6 overall) with 12 kills and 15 digs. Bradley collected 49 kills to just 33 for the Lady Govs and outdug Austin Peay 63-54 for the day. Senior Jennifer Bohan helped lead the Braves defensive efforts with a match-high 16 digs.
Earlier in the day Cincinnati improved to 2-0 in tournament play with a 3-0 victory against Western Illinois.
Bradley improved to 2-0 in tournament play with the victory and will face Cincinnati (4-1 overall) in the championship match tonight at 7 p.m. Western Illinois and Austin Peay will face off at 4:30 p.m. in a battle for third place in the tournament.
