CEDAR FALLS, Iowa ? Bradley seniors Jennifer Jenkins (Calumet City, Ill. /Thornwood H.S.) and Kim Martin (Bartonville, Ill./Limestone H.S.) led the Bradley women's track and field team at the University of Northern Iowa Invite Saturday in Cedar Falls.
Jenkins put in an excellent performance in the women's weight throw, recording 55'6 1/2", which was good for a third-place finish. Martin recorded a 48'11 1/2” in the weight throw competition and 37'1 1/4'' in the shot put competition, good for sixth- and 14th-place, respectively.
Freshmen Anne Bucalo (Fox River Grove, Ill./Cary-Grove H.S.) and Catherine Schamberger (Amboy, Ill./Amboy H.S.) both added solid results in the weight throw and shot put competitions. Bucalo finished with 32' 1/4” and 38'6 1/4” good enough for 22nd- and 10th-place, respectively. Schamberger finished with a weight throw of 32'11 1/2” and shot distance of 37' 1/4". Senior Maya Monitto-Webber (Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City H.S.) also added a solid performance in the shot put competition with a distance of 27'10 1/4”.
On the track, sophomore Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake H.S.) led the Braves in the women's one-mile run, finishing fifth with a time of 5:13.18. Freshman Tracy Lotter (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) was 10 seconds behind her with a time of 5:23.47, followed closely by senior Sarah Westrick (Livonia, Mich./Winston Churchill H.S.), who clocked in at 5:24.11. Freshman Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand H.S.) finished with a time of 5:29.18, with classmate Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill./ Harvard H.S.) next with a season best time of 5:31.74.
Junior Ainslie Schultz (Forest City, Iowa/Forest City H.S.) finished strong in the women's 3000-meter run with a career best time of 10:41.61, which was good for a fourth-place finish. Junior Shelby Lile (Jefferson City, Mo./Jefferson City H.S.) finished with a season-best time of 11:12.73.
Sophomore Jessica Holloway (Paris, Ill./Paris H.S.) had a strong performance in the long jump with a distance of 15'2”. Holloway also added strong performances in the women's 60- and 200-meter dash races, recording times of 9.01 and 30.88, respectively.
Seniors Monitto-Webber, Shannon Calvert (Pekin, Ill./Pekin H.S.) and Trish Martens (Elgin, Ill./Burlington Central H.S.) also competed in the 60-meter dash, recording times of 8.47, 8.85 and 8.92, respectively. Sophomore Amanda Harms (Wheaton, Ill./ Warrenville South H.S.) finished with a time of 8.84.
Freshmen Nikki Greendyke (Greenville, Ohio/Greenville), Stefanie Luce (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) and Erika Sepich (Canton, Ill./Canton) finished with times of 31.21, 30.45 and 27.33, respectively, in the 200-meter dash in their spring debuts. Calvert, Harms, Martens, Monitto-Webber, Schurr and Celica Tong (Clinton, Iowa/Fulton Christian) also ran the 200, while junior Julia Schurr (Canal Winchester/ Bloom-Carroll) ran a time of 1:03.01 in the 400-meter dash.
Bradley track and field will be back in action Feb. 9-10 when they travel back to Iowa to participate in the Iowa State Classic in Ames.
