Senior Nikki Pierzchala (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) had a team-high 12 kills to lead Bradley, but the Braves hit just .090 as a team and fell in three games to Creighton, Friday night at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. Game scores in favor of the Bluejays were 30-21, 30-15, 30-23.
Pierzchala finished with a team-best 12 kills and added eight digs and two block assists to help pace the Braves. Junior Katrina Goncher (Batavia, Ill./Aurora Rosary) was the only other Bradley player with more than five kills, adding eight kills and six blocks. Sophomore Kaitlyn Comiskey (Crystal Lake, Ill./South) had 18 digs to pace the Braves defensively.
Game one went back and forth with six lead changes and 13 ties in the set. Bradley (2-20 overall, 1-9 MVC) trailed 18-17 after a Pierzchala kill, but Creighton countered with consecutive aces by Lauren Bloemke and Kelly Goc added three kills to highlight a 9-2 Bluejay spurt that gave Creighton a commanding 27-19 lead. The Bluejays would go on to post a 30-21 victory in the opener.
Creighton (14-7 overall, 8-2 MVC) led 18-13 in game two, before the Bluejays went on an 11-0 run to take a 29-13 lead. Pierzchala ended the run with back-to-back kills, but Carolyn Decker closed out a 30-15 Creighton win with a kill.
Bradley led on several occasions in game three, before Creighton made a late push to take control and close out the match with a 30-23 win. The Braves led 18-16 after a Pierzchala kill, but the Bluejays countered with six consecutive points and went on a 14-7 scoring binge to close out the game.
Bradley hit .090 as a team in the match, which included an .056 attack percentage in the final two games. Junior setter Sam Black (Atalissa, Iowa/West Liberty) narrowly missed a double-double finishing with 27 assist and nine digs.
Creighton hit 293 as a team and was led by Goc's match-high 19 kills. Allie Oelke added 14 kills to help lead the Creighton offensive which posted 60 kills, compared to 33 for the Braves. The Bluejays also had a 71-58 edge in digs and served up six aces in the three-game sweep.
Bradley returns to action Saturday when the Braves play at Drake. First serve at the Drake Knapp Center is set for 7 p.m.
