Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. ? After dropping the opening game 30-24, Bradley rebounded to win the final three games of the night and pick up its first Missouri Valley Conference victory of the year, downing Indiana State 24-30, 30-16, 30-26, 30-25, in MVC volleyball action Saturday night.
Senior Jenna Harrison (Edwardsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran) led a balanced Bradley attack that featured for Braves in double figures in kills. She finished with a match-high 13 kills and hit .346 on the night. Fellow senior Nikki Pierzchala (Sylvania, Ohio/Northview) added 12 kills and nine digs, while freshman Melissa Collins (Machester, Mo./Parkway South) also added 12 kills.
The Braves (2-16 overall, 1-6 MVC) led 22-20 in the first game, before Indiana State went on a 10-2 run to pick a win in the first set.
Bradley dominated the second game, leading from start to finish and hitting .474 as a team. The Braves limited Indiana State to a .108 attack percentage in the second game. BU held a 16-10 lead before sophomore Amy Reichel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) sparked an 11-3 Braves run with a service ace. The Braves went on to even the match with a 30-16 victory. Reichel had seven kills, one ace and one block solo to highlight play for the Braves in game two.
Game three was a see-saw battle that included 11 ties and eight lead changes. Bradley trailed 20-19 before a Pierzchala kill evened the match and opened a 3-0 BU spurt that gave the Braves a 22-20 lead. Pierzchala added a pair of aces to push Bradley's lead to 26-22, but Indiana State would pull to within two points at 27-25. A Sycamore attack error and a pair of Collins kills put the finishing touches on a 30-26 Bradley win that swung the momentum in favor of the Braves.
Indiana State (3-13 overall, 0-8 MVC) looked to even the match at two games each, before the Braves made a late push to close out the match. Bradley led most of the match, before the Sycamores pulled even at 22-22. Harrison and junior Katrina Goncher (Batavia, Ill./Aurora Rosary) posted consecutive kills to start a 6-0 Bradley run that put the Braves ahead 28-22. The Braves went on to post a 30-25 win and pick up their first conference win of the year.
Bradley had four players in double figures in kills, with Reichel adding 10 kills on the night. Goncher added eight kills and hit at a .368 clip off the bench. Sophomore Kaitlyn Comiskey (Crystal Lake, Ill./South) contributed a career-high 28 digs and also added two aces, while junior Sam Black (Atalissa, Iowa/West Liberty) posted 49 assists and 11 digs for her team-best eighth double-double of the year.
The Braves hit .252 as a team and limited Indiana State to a .150 attack percentage. Jodilynne Stoker was the only Sycamore to reach double figures in kills, finishing with 12. Bradley's win was the fifth consecutive victory in the all-time series.
Bradley returns to action next Friday (Oct. 12) when the Braves open a three-match homestand with a 7 p.m. match against Evansville at Robertson Memorial Field House.
