Braves Finish 12th At D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate

NORMAL, Ill. ? Sophomore Zach Wanken (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) shot a final round 75 and finished tied for 23rd to help the Bradley men's golf team to a 12th place finish at the D.A. Weibring Intercollegiate at the Weibring Golf Club Monday.

 

Wanken fired the second-best round of the day for the Braves and finished tied for 23rd at 219.  Senior Tommie Ackerman (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Christian/Illinois Central) fired the best round of the day for Bradley, shooting a season-low 73 and finished tied for 36th overall at 223.

 

Freshman Coby Thompson (East Galesburg, Ill./Knoxville) matched his second-round 76 with a 76 during Monday's third round and finished six shots behind Ackerman in a tie for 48th place at 229.  Senior Nick Roth (Rochester, Ill./Rochester/Illinois Central) was carded the fourth-best round of the day for the Braves at 79 and finished 60th at 237.  Freshman Nathan Perry (Normal, Ill./West) edged Roth in the individual standings, shooting 81 on the last day of play to finish at 236 and take 59th place.

 

Sophomore Kyle Phelan (Fishers, Ind./Cathedral), played as an individual and tied for 61st after shooting a third-round 82 to finish tied for 61st.  Sophomore Zach Zobrist (Morton, Ill./Peoria Christian) also played as an individual and tied for 67th at 245 after carding a final round 81.

 

Illinois claimed the team title with a three-round score of 837.  Southern Illinois was second at 854 and was followed by tournament-host Illinois State in third place at 862.  Northern Iowa was fourth at 870 and Western Illinois was fifth at 875.  Eastern Illinois place sixth overall at 879, while Cincinnati was seventh at 884.

 

Creighton finished eighth at 887 and Illinois State White was ninth at 893.  Lewis finished 10th at 895, with Evansville and Bradley rounding out the field, respectively, at 901 and 904.  The Braves followed up rounds of 297 and 304 during Sunday's play with a final round 303.

 

Bradley closes out its fall schedule Oct. 15& 16 at the Skyhawk Invitational in Martin, Tenn.
