The Oklahoma State men's cross country team placed three runners in the top ten to win the NCAA Midwest Regional Saturday at Newman Golf Course. The Minnesota women's team placed all seven runners in the top 25 to claim the women's 6K title. The Bradley men's team finished in 14th place, while the Bradley women's team turned in a 21st place finish.
Illinois senior Trent Hoerr, a Morton High School graduate, won the men's individual title with a time of 29:56, beating out Minnesota freshman Hassan Mead by one second. The Minnesota men's team finished second, ten points behind champion Oklahoma State. The Cowboys and Golden Gophers advanced to the NCAA Championship in Nov. 17 in Terre Haute, Ind.
Iowa senior Diane Nukuri won her second consecutive Midwest Regional title with a 6K time of 19:37, blowing away the rest of the field with a 26 second victory over runner-up Angela Bizzarri of Illinois. The Illinois women's team turned in a second place finish and will join champion Minnesota at the NCAA Championship Nov. 17 in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Bradley men's team totaled 456 points to edge out Southeast Missouri State, Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake, and Kansas State for 14th place. Senior Chris George (Normal, Ill./University) led the Braves with a 58th place finish in a career-best time of 31:52. Junior Nathan Ahart (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) was next for the Braves with a time of 32:20 for 77th place. Senior Nathan Leech (Fremont, Neb.) finished 88th in a time of 32:38, followed by junior Patrick Greene (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield South) in 116th place with a 10K time of 33:31. Freshman Andrew Wieser (Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) finished the Bradley scoring with a 124th place finish in 34:03. Freshman Brian Tyne (Polo, Ill.) ran his first career 10K in 34:29 for 135th place, followed just moments later by senior Nick Palumbo (McHenry, Ill.) in 143rd place with a time of 34:50.
Junior Katie Nowak (Avon Lake, Ohio) led the Bradley women's team to a 21st place finish with 576 points. Nowak turned in a 69th place finish with a time of 21:56. Freshman Mary Goldkamp (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished next for the Braves in 108th place with a time of 22:37, followed by freshman Marlana Haefelin (Sandwich, Ill.) finished in 22:58 for 127th place. Junior Shelby Lile (Jefferson City, Mo.) finished in 23:22 for 143rd place, while sophomore Rachel Brubaker (Davis, Ill./Durand) clocked in at 23:57 for 159th place. Sophomore Shannon Seyller (Harvard, Ill.) finished the 6K course in a time of 24:20 for 167th place.
