Erika Nelson Named Scholar-Athlete Of The Week

PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior guard Erika Nelson (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) has been named the Bradley Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Thursday, after averaging 19.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals per game, while shooting 61.5 percent from three-point range in a pair of Bradley victories last week.

Nelson had 19 points, one rebound, two assists and one steal while hitting 4-of-6 three-point attempts in the Braves 78-75 victory against Missouri State, helping Bradley sweep the regular-season series from the Bears for the first time since the 1988-89 season. She followed that with a 20-point effort against Wichita State, hitting 4-of-7 three-point attempts and also added four steals as Bradley downed the Shockers 88-77. Nelson pushed her season three-point total to 66, moving her into third among Bradley's season marks for trey's. A business management and administration major, Nelson owns a 3.17 cumulative grade point average.

Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Insurance & Financial Services Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.

Nelson and the Braves return to action tonight when they play host to I-74 rival Illinois State at 8:05 p.m. at Robertson Memorial Field House.
