BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ? The Bradley men's golf team is ninth among Division I competitors after the first day of play at the Birmingham Southern Spring Invite at the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala.
The Braves were short handed for their first two rounds of the spring as senior Ryan Saurs was forced to miss Monday's action due to injury.
Senior Scott Phegley was the top performer for Bradley, firing rounds of 76 and 74 to end the day tied for 16th at 150. Junior Tommie Ackerman also had a solid spring opener, turning in rounds of 75 and 76 to finish the day one shot behind Phegley at 151 and tied for 18th.
Freshman Zach Wanken carded a pair of 81's and is tied for 61st at 162 and junior Nick Roth rounded out the scoring for the Braves at 169 after rounds of 87 and 82 and is in 75th.
Bradley shot rounds of 319 and 313 and is ninth among Division I teams at 632. Tournament host Birmingham Southern holds the top spot on the leaderboard at four-over par 580. Tennessee Tech is second at 583 and Missouri Valley Conference rival Evanville is third overall at 587.
Siena is fourth among Division I competitors at 600 and is followed by Nicholls State (606), while Birmingham Southern's second team and Eastern Illinois are tied at 612. Centenary College finished the day at 613 and the Braves round out the Division I teams at 632.
Bradley will close out play at the Birmingham Southern Spring Invite Tuesday with one round of play.
