CARBONDALE, Ill. ? Junior Whitney Cox is tied for eighth and the Bradley women's golf team is currently in fifth place in the team standings after 18 holes at the Saluki Invitational at the par-72 Hickory Ridge Golf Course.
Cox is the top individual for the Braves after Sunday's opening round, shooting a team-best 77 to finish the day tied for eighth place in the field that includes 87 individual competitors. Cox is five shot behind individual leader Stephanie Fleet of Eastern Michigan, who carded an even par 72.
Sophomore Bari-Lynn Erais is tied for 17th, two shots behind Cox at 79. Junior Rikki Sobel and senior Charlotte McGinnis are both one shot behind Erais in a tie for 23rd place at 80.
Rounding out the team scores were sophomore Lauren Downing, who it tied for 50th at 85, and freshman Jenny Van Kirk. Van Kirk is tied for 83rd overall at 97. Sophomore Fran Vance is competing as an individual and is tied for 80th after carding a first-round 95.
The Braves are fifth overall in the team standings after shooting 316 and are 13 shots behind tournament-host which shot a first-round best 303. Missouri Valley Conference rival Illinois State and Eastern Michigan is tied for second place at 307. Murray State is one shot in front of Bradley in fourth place at 315 and the Braves have an eight-shot edge on sixth place Eastern Illinois.
Indiana State is seventh in the field at 326 and Drake and Austin Peay are tied for eighth 330. Northern Iowa is fourth shots back in 10th at 334, while Creighton (11th ? 337), Evansville (12th ? 345) and Western Illinois (13th ? 346) round out the field, respectively.
Bradley will close out play at the Saluki Invitational Tuesday with one round of play.
