LE MANS, France ? Former Bradley men's basketball star Marcellus Sommerville made his professional postseason debut Tuesday by helping Chalon/Sa?ne to a 73-62 victory at Le Mans in the first round of the French National Basketball League (LNB) Pro A Division playoffs.
Sommerville, who recently signed with Chalon/Sa?ne for the playoffs after completing his rookie season in the Pro B Division with Angers BC 49, contributed nine points and four rebounds in Tuesday's opening-round game. He sank 2-of-3 attempts from 3-point range and his three offensive boards led the team in his 20-minute debut. The teams will resume their series Thursday at Chalon/Sa?ne.
Sommerville starred at Bradley from 2004 through 2006 and finished 12th on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,493 career points in his three-year Braves career. A three-time All-Missouri Valley Conference selection, he led the Braves to a 22-11 campaign in 2005-06 and the third round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament.
Sommerville began his professional career last fall after signing with Atomeromu SE Paks in Hungary's A Division. His contract was purchased by Angers during Europe's Christmas break and he averaged 16.3 points per game during the remainder of the French season.
