LAS VEGAS -- The two stars of Bradley's 2006 NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 squad will face each other in the 2007 NBA Summer League Tuesday night at the Thomas & Mack Center. In advance of his second year in the NBA, 7-foot center Patrick O'Bryant will play for Golden State's Summer League team, while former Bradley center Marcellus Sommerville will suit up for the world champion San Antonio Spurs during the Las Vegas Summer League and the Rocky Mountain Revue.
The ninth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, O'Bryant split time during his rookie season between Golden State and Bakersfield in the NBA Developmental League. In 16 regular-season games with the Warriors, O'Bryant averaged 1.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 blocked shots.
Last summer, Sommerville played for the Dallas Mavericks entry in the Los Angeles Summer Pro League, then began his professional career in earnest by playing overseas. The 6-foot-7 forward began his rookie season in Hungary, then transferred to Angers BC in the French Pro B division during the winter break. After averaging 15.4 points and 5.8 rebounds for Angers during the second half of the season, Sommerville was signed by Chalon for the French Pro A playoffs and helped his new squad to the semifinals.
Sommerville's San Antonio squad will play five games in Las Vegas, beginning with today's 3 p.m. (CT) matchup against Philadelphia at COX Pavilion. San Antonio's Las Vegas schedule will continue Saturday (7 p.m.) against Cleveland, Monday (3 p.m.) against Boston, Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) against Golden State and Wednesday (3 p.m.) versus Minnesota. While the matchup against O'Bryant and the Warriors will be played at the Thomas & Mack Center, the other four games will be played at COX Pavilion. Video streams of the Las Vegas Summer League will be available for all games and Monday's game against the Celtics will be televised on NBA TV.
