Box Score TOLEDO, Ohio ? Bradley wrapped up play at the season-opening Clarion Westgate Rocket Classic against tournament host Toledo, and the Braves had their hands full as the Rockets hit .380 as a team and posted a 30-23, 30-21, 30-23 victory against BU Saturday afternoon. Bradley fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss.
Sophomore Amy Reichel (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) and senior Jenna Harrison (Edwardsville, Metro East Lutheran) tied for team-high honors with eight kills, while freshman Emily Austin (St. Louis, Mo./Oakville) added seven kills. Reichel hit .417 in the match and the trio combined for 23 of the teams 36 kills and a .375 attack percentage, while the rest of the team hit .019 in the match.
Toledo (1-2 overall) hit .357 or better in each of the three games and hit .380 as a squad as the Rockets picked up their first victory of the year. TaNeisha Winters led Toledo with 20 kills and a .548 attack percentage.
Bradley led 21-20 in the first game following an Austin kill, but five Bradley errors and a pair of bad sets helped Toledo go on a 10-2 run to close out the opening game.
Another Austin kill pulled the Braves to within two points at 21-19 in game two, before Winters took control of the game. Winters, who had eight kills in game two, notched a kill to spark a 9-2 Toledo spurt. She registered four kills, one block assist and one assist to highlight the Rockets run.
Toledo had control throughout most of game three and led by as many as nine points, before the Braves fought back to pull to within four points at 25-21. Winters and the Rockets would outscore Bradley 5-2 down the stretch and complete the three-game sweep with a 30-23 victory.
Bradley returns to action next weekend when the Braves host the Radisson Hotel Invitational at Robertson Memorial Field House. Montana and Western Illinois will play at 4:30 p.m. to open tournament play and the Braves home opener against Saint Louis will follow at 7 p.m.
