ANN ARBOR, Mich. ? Junior Bari-Lynn Erais (Lethbridge, Alberta/Lethbridge Collegiate Institute) tied a career-low with a one-under par 70 in the second round, to help highlight first day action for the Bradley women's golf team at the Wolverine Invitational Saturday, at the par-71 University of Michigan Golf Course. The Braves finished the first day of play in a tie for ninth place with Toledo at 636.
Erais and the Braves struggled in the morning's first round, shooting 321. Senior Rikki Sobel (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) highlighted the first round, tying a season-low with a 77 during the opening round.
Erais and the Braves fared much better in the afternoon, as she tied a career-low and matched the low-round of the day with a 70 in the second round of play. She enters Sunday's final round in a tie for 12th place at 153 and is nine shots behind individual leader Stephany Fleet of Eastern Michigan.
Sobel followed up her season-best 77 in the first round with a second-round 79 and is currently tied for 27th at 156. Fellow senior Whitney Cox (Edmonton, Alberta/Harry Ainlay) is four shots behind Sobel in a tie for 40th place at 160, after carding rounds of 78 and 82.
Freshman Breanne Neufeld (Coaldale, Alberta/Coaldale) fired rounds of 83 and 84 to finish the day in 56th place at 167. Junior Lauren Downing (Rockton, Ill./Hononeagh) rounded out the team scoring with rounds of 85 and 90 to finish the first day of play in a tie for 58th at 175. Freshman Caitlin Deeken (California, Mo./California) is playing as an individual in the event and is tied with Downing for 58th at 175 after turning in rounds of 84 and 91.
Tournament-host Michigan holds the top spot in the team standings after 36 holes of play at 598. Notre Dame follows in second place at 600, while SMU is third at 606. Wisconsin finished the day in fourth overall 607 and is followed by Indiana in fifth place at 608.
Eastern Michigan is sixth on the team leaderboard at 612, with Tulsa following in seventh at 619. Cincinnati is eighth overall at 629, while Toledo and Bradley round out the field in a tie for ninth at 636.
