Box Score
LAS VEGAS, Nev. ?
Bradley freshman Jess Boeger (St. Louis, Mo./Afton H.S.) provided a clutch, late-inning hit for the second time in as many days, hitting a walk-off RBI double to score senior Stephanie Ramsey (Washington, Ill./Washington H.S.) in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat UTEP, 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.
Playing international tiebreaker rules, Ramsey was placed at second base with no outs to start the inning after making the last out in the eighth inning for the Braves. After Ramsey was sacrificed to third base by freshman Lauren Kelly (Lawrence, Kan./Lawrence H.S.), the stage was set for Boeger to knock home the winning run with the walk-off double. Boeger's heroics come a little more than 24 hours after a two-run home run jump started Bradley's offense in a 3-2 victory over Wisconsin on Friday. Boeger went 4-for-4 with three doubles against the Miners.
UTEP plated two runs in the top of the first inning after a pair of RBI doubles from Ashley Perez and Stacie Townsend. The Braves scored single runs in the first and third innings. Boeger scored from third on an illegal pitch in the first, while sophomore Janay Mitchell (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South H.S.) drove home the tying run in the third.
Ramsey added a run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning to force another tie after UTEP regained the lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Senior pitcher Rebecca Bishop (Carmichael, Calif./Del Campo H.S.) allowed three earned runs over six innings in a no-decision. Junior Ashley Birdsong (Otis, Ore./Taft H.S.) came on in relief to pick up her third win of the tournament, pitching three scoreless innings to close out the game.
