ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Bradley junior center fielder Dan Brewer (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township H.S.) has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Player of the Week after helping the Braves (8-9, 2-1 MVC) to a 4-2 record in their six games last week. Bradley won two of their last three games during their spring break trip to Florida, then opened its Valley schedule by taking 2-of-3 this past weekend at Evansville.
Brewer hit .385 (10-26) with a double, two home runs, 10 runs batted in and eight runs scored and he hit safely in each of the last five games, going .435 (10-23) during his current streak. Batting in the leadoff spot, Brewer drove in the go-ahead run in Bradley's eventual 7-6 win Wednesday versus Miami-Ohio in the final game of the team's Spring Break trip to Florida, then broke a 6-6 tie with a 3-run home run in the ninth inning of Saturday's 9-6 win at Evansville. He added a 2-run double in the fourth inning of Sunday's game at Evansville to forge a 3-3 tie en route to the 11-6 victory.
Brewer becomes the second Bradley player to earn weekly honors from The Valley this season. Sophomore right-hander Rob Scahill was the league Pitcher of the Week Feb. 25.
The Braves will return to the road for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Northern Illinois, then will open their 2008 home schedule with a 3-game weekend set versus Missouri Valley Conference rival Indiana State at O'Brien Field. Friday's series opener is slated for 4 p.m. and the series will continue with a 2 p.m. game Saturday and a 1 p.m. contest Sunday.
