Bradley junior soccer forward Chris Cutshaw (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) netted the game-winning goal and later added an assist in the Chicago Fire Super-20 team's 3-0 North American National semifinal victory over the D.C. United Super-20 Team Saturday in Virginia Beach, Va. The Fire Super-20s went on to win the North American National Championship with a 2-1 over the Toronto Lynx on Sunday.
Cutshaw's game-winner came in the fifth minute of Saturday's semifinal win on an assist from Mike Stevens. Later in the contest, Cutshaw notched an assist on Matt Eliason's 68th minute goal to give the Fire Super-20s a 2-0 advantage. In all, the Fire Super-20s outscored its opponents 15-2 in five games played during the final week of competition.
Entering his junior season at Bradley, Cutshaw is the team's active scoring leader with 13 career goals and 31 points. Cutshaw recorded two game-winning goals in 2007, including the header that sent Bradley past Maryland with a 3-2 double overtime victory in the third round of the NCAA tournament.
This fall, the Braves will try to become the second team in Missouri Valley Conference history to win at least a share of four consecutive regular season conference titles. Bradley will host Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a 3 p.m. exhibition game Aug. 18 at Shea Stadium and officially will open the 2008 campaign Aug. 29 by facing host Memphis in the first round of the Memphis Diadora Tournament.
