PEORIA, Ill. ? Cal State Fullerton sophomore forward Celso Alvarez sent a shot past Bradley sophomore goalkeeper Drew Van Kampen (Naperville, Ill./Waubonsie Valley H.S.) into the back of the net in the 79th minute, completing a 2-1 come-from-behind win for the Titans, Saturday night at Shea Stadium.

Alvarez's game-winner came to the right of Van Kampen, who came out to try to knock the ball away from the Titan forward. Alvarez chipped the ball past the Bradley goalkeeper to give Fullerton its first lead of the game with just 11:07 remaining in regulation. The Titans controlled possession for a large portion of the remainder of the game, securing Fullerton's third victory of the season.

The Braves looked sharp in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead on junior Chris Cutshaw's (Carmel, Ind./Carmel H.S.) fifth goal of the season. The scoring play started on a throw in from senior defender Brad Snook (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central H.S.) deep near the Bradley net to sophomore Rudy Garcia (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame H.S.), who sent a pass ahead to Cutshaw. The Bradley forward won a foot race against two Fullerton defenders and was able to put a shot past Titan goalkeeper Kevin Puder from inside the box for the early lead. The assist from Snook was the first of his career.

The visitors were able to force a 1-1 tie less than eight minutes into the second half on Mario Alvarez's first goal of the season. In the 53rd minute, Alvarez sent a diving header past Van Kampen off a pass from Kevin Venegas. Ryan Kaylor also earned an assist on the play.

In the first half, both goalkeepers made outstanding plays to keep the scoring to a minimum. Van Kampen turned away a shot from Venegas in the 11th minute, while Puder stopped a drive from Bradley's Christian Meza (Carpentersville, Ill./Dundee-Crown H.S.) in the 24th minute after Meza created a one-on-one situation in the box.

Bradley junior Justin Bigelow (Auburn, Ind./DeKalb H.S.) nearly gave the Braves a 2-0 lead just 12 seconds into the second half, but his blast from 20 yards out was knocked away by a diving Puder to keep the Bradley advantage at 1-0.

The Titans took 22 shots during the game, outshooting Bradley 22-12. Van Kampen made a career-high eight saves in the loss, the most saves by a Bradley goalkeeper since Mike Haynes stopped eight shots on goal in Bradley's NCAA tournament game at Indiana last season. The Bradley defense allowed more than one or fewer goals for the first time this season. Puder picked up his second win of the season, making six saves.

The Braves will return to the pitch next weekend, hosting the four-team Country Inn & Suites Homecoming Classic at Shea Stadium. The Braves will host Alabama A&M on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7:30 p.m., followed by a 7:30 p.m. match the following night against first-time opponent Howard. Missouri Valley Conference rival Missouri State will also take part in the tournament, facing Howard Friday night and Alabama A&M Saturday night, both 5 p.m. kickoffs.
