PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior guard Sam Maniscalco (Chicago, Ill./St. Patrick) has been named the Bradley Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week announced Wednesday after helping the Bradley Men's Basketball team to a 1-1 start to the season.
Maniscalco averaged 14.0 points per game during Bradley's opening week, scoring 15 points Friday at BYU in the season opener and following it up with a 13-point effort against Idaho State. He scored the Braves' final seven points in the 74-69 win Sunday against the Bengals, beginning with a three-pointer which gave Bradley a 70-65 lead with 1:10 remaining. The 6-foot guard knocked down three three-pointers in each game, pushing his career total to 132 and moving him into ninth place on BU's all-time list. A sports communication major, Maniscalco owns a 3.32 cumulative grade point average.
Each week, a Bradley student-athlete is selected as the Country Financial Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The individual chosen must be at least a sophomore in class standing and boast a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average, while displaying a level of athletic excellence.
Maniscalco and the Braves begin action in the HoopTV Las Vegas Invitational by hosting Wofford in a 6:05 p.m. tipoff Sunday at Carver Arena. The tournament will continue with a second home game Nov. 24 versus Presbyterian before moving to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, where Bradley will take on former Missouri Valley Conference rival Oklahoma State Nov. 27 in third-round action. The Braves will face either Illinois or Utah in the championship round Nov. 28.
