PEORIA, Ill. -- Senior forward Monica Rogers (Forsyth, Ill./St. Teresa/Hampton) has been named the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday. Rogers earned MVC Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career and is the second Bradley player to earn the award this season.
Rogers had team highs of 18 points and eight rebounds to help lead the Braves (17-6 overall, 8-4 MVC) to a 69-58 come-from-behind victory against Northern Iowa Saturday night. Held to four points and two rebounds in the first half, Rogers had 14 points and six boards in the second half to help Bradley erase a four-point halftime deficit. She had three steals and made 4-of-5 free throws in the win as she had a streak of 19 consecutive made free throws snapped.
The team's leading scorer at 11.8 points per game, Rogers ranks fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference in rebounding at 7.9 boards per game and leads the Braves with seven double-doubles this season.
Rogers and the Braves picked up their 17th victory of the season Saturday against UNI, marking the most wins for the Braves since the 1991-92 season and Bradley's eight MVC victories are the most since finishing 2004-05 league play with an 8-10 mark.
The second Bradley player to earn MVC Player of the Week honors this season, Rogers joined Skye Johnson among MVC Player of the Week award winners in 2008-09 and gives the Braves two MVC Player of the Week selections in the same season since Sara Bailey and Lora Weber both earned the honor in 2001-02.
Bradley returns to action Thursday when the Braves continue a season-long three-game homestand with a 7:05 p.m. contest against Creighton at Lorene Ramsey Gym in East Peoria, Ill. Thursday's game will be broadcast in the Peoria area on WMBD 1470 AM.
