The Bradley doubles pairing of junior Emily Regenold (Cincinnati, Ohio/Princeton H.S.) and sophomore Nicole Miller (Glendale Heights, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) extended its season-long win streak to 10 matches, sparking the Bradley women's tennis team to a doubles sweep and a 5-2 dual victory over Cal State-Bakersfield in Las Vegas, Nev. Monday morning.
Regenold and Miller improved to 10-0 during the spring from the top spot in the BU lineup with an 8-5 win over Nefeli Diamanti and Kaydee Graham. Counting the fall tournament schedule, the BU pairing is 13-6 on the year and has not dropped a doubles match since Oct. 23 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals.
At the No. 2 doubles spot, BU juniors Jessica Buterbaugh (Paradise Valley, Ariz./Chaparral H.S.) and Kelly Donohue (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy) defeated Ashlee Thorneycroft and Sara Mifwel 8-3, while Bradley seniors Kim Braun (Racine, Wis./The Prairie School) and Erin Krubeck (Boulder, Colo./Fairview H.S.) finished the sweep with an 8-2 victory over Kirstie Jenkins and Veronica Dimas at No. 3. Braun and Krubeck have now won six doubles matches in a row when playing together this spring.
The Braves controlled singles play, winning four of six matches to clinch the dual victory. Miller needed only two sets to turn aside Diamanti by a 6-2, 6-0 score at No. 1, while sophomore Veronika Wojakowska (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer H.S.) improved her spring record to 8-1 with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Dimas at No. 2. Regenold gave the Braves a win at each of the top three spots in the lineup with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Jenkins. Braun was victorious at No. 6, besting Charlotte Hughes in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
The Roadrunners earned a pair of singles wins for their only points of the match, starting with Graham's three-set win over Buterbaugh at No. 4, 6-2, 6-7, 10-6. Mijwel logged a win at No. 5 for CSUB, downing Krubeck 6-3, 6-2.
Bradley's win ends a brief two-match losing streak and improves the Braves to 7-3 overall, the best ten-match start for the Braves since the 1992-93 squad started 8-2. The Braves will play Southern Utah at noon Tuesday, followed by a 10 a.m. match against Oakland on Wednesday to conclude the three-match trip to Las Vegas.
